With Season 11 of Diablo 4 set to launch on December 9th, the PTR (Public Test Realm) has given us a first glimpse at the power balance across all classes. This season introduces the Tower, a new endgame activity replacing the Pit as the primary metric for high-level performance. Using Tower leaderboard data, we can rank classes by raw power and predict which builds will dominate.
Measuring Class Power in Season 11
The Tower functions similarly to the Pit, using the same tier scaling system and difficulty progression. The key difference is built-in leaderboards that track the top clears for each class by tier and completion time.
Tier Rankings and Build Insights
Rank 6 – Rogue (Tier 94)
Rogue currently sits at the bottom with a top Tower clear of tier 94. The class is in an awkward spot on PTR. Early testing saw Dance of Knives dominate, but Blizzard patched it mid-PTR, leaving rogue builds somewhat mediocre at high-end content.
The competitive rogue option now is Death Trap, which has been a reliable top-tier build for multiple seasons. Its effectiveness hinges on the Melted Heart of Seelig, which provides an enormous resource pool that powers high-damage abilities. Coupled with Diablo IV items – Beastfall Boots, Death Trap rogues can funnel huge amounts of energy into massive damage.
While buggy on PTR (toughness stats aren’t fully applied), the expectation is that Rogue will receive buffs before live launch, making it more viable. There’s also potential in Heartseeker-based builds, suggesting build diversity could return.
Rank 5 – Sorcerer (Tier 103)
Sorcerers come in fifth place with a top Tower clear of tier 103, tied with Necromancer but slightly slower. Season 11 sees teleport shenanigans curtailed and chaos perks removed, bringing sorcerer power down compared to Season 10.
The strongest PTR sorcerer build is Crackling Energy Lightning Spear, leveraging the ESU’s Heirloom for overflow damage and Galvanic Azerite Ring for extra bursts. Other competitive options include Hydra and Frozen Orb setups, the latter benefiting from a reworked unique amulet.
Overall, Sorcerer sits in the middle of the pack—viable but not dominating.
Rank 4 – Necromancer (Tier 103)
Necromancer is steady and reliable, with a tier 103 clear. While Bloodwave has lost some power due to chaos perk removal, Shadow Blight remains strong.
A notable new contender is the Golem-focused build, using the Grave Bloom unique. This replaces a single golem with three smaller golems, improving damage output and attack speed, while affixes give a chance to hit twice. This makes Golem a legitimate competitive option for Season 11.
Necromancer is a safe pick for players seeking stability and consistent viability.
Rank 3 – Druid (Tier 105)
Druid tops out at tier 105, mainly with Cataclysm builds powered by Melted Heart of Seelig. The interaction with Ancestral Guidance allows for staggering ultimate damage, potentially creating insane burst numbers on PTR.
Other noteworthy builds include Poison Pulverized Puddle, Boulder, and Shred for speed farming. However, PTR bugs affecting Seelig reduce survivability, and live server caps on resource funneling may slightly reduce power.
Druid is strong but uncertain, with potential to be top-tier if Melted Heart caps are not implemented.
Rank 2 – Spiritorn (Tier 109)
Spiritorn ranks second with tier 109, achieved using an Evade build. This setup is powerful for both offense and defense, exploiting a PTR bug that makes Spiritorn nearly immortal.
The build benefits from Unyielding Commander, which scales weapon damage based on armor. With reworked armor systems, Spiritorn can hit massive armor values, making Evade builds extremely potent.
Other top Spiritorn builds include the Rod of Keele trio, covering Quill Volley, Crushing Hand, and Rake, along with modified core skills like Touch of Death or Payback. Spiritorn remains versatile and strong, one of the best classes this season.
Rank 1 – Barbarian (Tier 124)
Barbarian currently dominates with a staggering tier 124 clear—15 tiers above the next closest class, Spiritorn. The build responsible is Hammer of the Ancients, amplified by Melted Heart of Seelig.
Barbarians benefit from four weapon slots, including two-handed weapons, maximizing resource scaling. Coupled with Ramladney’s Magnum Opus and Furious enhancements, Hammer of the Ancients converts thousands of resource points into astronomical damage.
Reality check: Blizzard will likely implement caps before launch, preventing this extreme dominance. Even with nerfs, Barbarian is expected to remain top-tier, with other builds like Lunging Strike, Mighty Throw, and Leap remaining strong options.
Final Thoughts on Season 11 PTR
Season 11 introduces meaningful changes to class power, items, and endgame mechanics: Tower replaces the Pit for measuring endgame strength. Melted Heart rework significantly impacts builds across multiple classes. Temperings and Masterworking are less RNG-driven, making crafting more approachable. Enchantment randomness is higher due to four affixes per legendary item, making ideal rolls trickier.
Overall, PTR testing shows promising class diversity and power variation, though some extremes, like Barbarian are expected to be adjusted. Season 11 is shaping up to be exciting and more strategic, with several builds offering viable options at the top tier.
