The 2023 Watches and Wonders show was a recent phenomenon. The trade show showcased plenty of watches from all these luxury brands. During the show, two (2) brands stood out: Seiko and Tudor.
Here, we discuss why these brands are great!
Tudor’s Position
Tudor excels in “tool” watches; no other company does it better than Tudor. What is a tool watch? It’s workwear clothing—one of those flannel shirts, denim 5-pockets, work boots, or trucker jackets. They look good! However, they should also be used as hard as they need to be used and look better the more you use them and the harder they get used. It’s not that these items are not visually appealing or unusable.
No company makes better ‘tool’ watches today than Tudor. What is a tool watch? It’s like workwear clothing: a trucker jacket, flannel shirt, denim 5-pockets, or work boots. They look good but can and should be used as hard as you need to, and they seem to look better the harder you use them. In essence, what you wear best reflects them. When you change, they also change with you.
Tudor is one of many brands that produce such quality products. However, Tudor is the best value for money on the market. It’s a timeless brand with a reasonable price, too!
Grand Seiko’s Position
With GS Philippines as its website, Grand Seiko remains at the forefront of watch technology innovation. Sure, geek out about the Omega’s Spirate movement, but that’s only applicable to one (1) watch. Unlike that, Grand Seiko makes watches with over four (4) types of movements and with so many variations that the possibilities are almost endless. All of the movements there are outstanding. If a Tudor had put the movements in a Black Bay, it would have broken the internet over its excellence.
On the other hand, Seiko is a renowned brand. Among its offerings is Grand Seiko. And Grand Seiko does not offer the tool watch ethos that Tudor can fill. Think of it as a more sophisticated offering with a little more flash.
Practicality
The two watch brands have links, and they are what Gary Shteyngart once dubbed “The new Holy Trinity of Watches.” Aside from Seiko and Tudor, Nomos joins them as part of the new Holy Trinity of Watches due to their unique position in the modern horological landscape. They offer refinement and high value.
What used to be the old trinity were Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet. The horological tradition steeped these three (3) brands deeply. As a result, they earned a spot as the top horological producers.
Value
Lastly, it’s all about value! Due to their value, Tudor, Seiko, and NOMOS have found their place right now. Seiko excels best in mechanical movement, with Tudor for its price and the amalgamation of elements that made Tudor and Rolex unique.
Wrapping Up
Seiko and Tudor have earned places as excellent watches. They’ve also been dubbed part of the new Holy Trinity of watches. However, if we compare, it depends on what you want. If you want a workhorse, then Tudor is your guy. Seiko fits those who want something with more refinery.
