Nowadays, and much more so than in previous decades, office design focuses on so many more things than just aesthetics and cost-efficiency. In the modern office environment, everything from positive mental health to work-life balance to increased productivity are considerations when creating the workspace layout.

After all, this workplace is going to play a crucial part in shaping employee satisfaction, morale, and culture. That’s why it’s so important to understand how to best balance all these differing but ultimately aligning professional objectives. For the purpose of today’s article, we will be taking a closer look at office design ideas that help improve worker productivity including a training table, ergonomic furniture options, as well natural light, and others.

    Use Flexible and Multi-Person Workstations

Understanding that different employees have different preferences when it comes to how and where they work should have a significant influence on how you design their work areas.

Collaboration areas, standing desks, and quiet zones are all things to be considered. Additionally, workstations that accommodate three, four, or even more team members also help to facilitate cooperation and collaborative efforts.

    Incorporate Training Tables

Adding this piece of office furnishing helps to foster a knowledge-sharing and brain-storming atmosphere. Using these tables for functions such as workshopping, team meetings, and of course, training sessions encourage idea-sharing, creativity, and innovation.  Look into adding ergonomic chairs and various technology to maximize the collaborative effort.

    Think More Ergonomically

We mentioned ergonomic seating around the training table in the previous section, however; you should consider ergonomic furniture wherever possible. While it may not be within the budget to make all seating of the highest quality, there are certain places where it would be more productive.

Employee workstation seating and meeting/conference/presentation rooms should always be ergonomically considered, as should collaboration areas.

    Utilize Natural Light

Natural sunlight and Vitamin D are known to have a positive effect on energy levels, moods, attitudes, and ultimately, productivity. When planning your office design, make natural light a priority by placing work areas near windows or under skylights.

Strategically position glass partitions throughout the office to catch and reflect light. Also, consider lighter interior paint shades and carpeting as this enhances natural light and promotes a bright and energetic atmosphere.

An Overlooked Design Detail: Acoustic Design

Many non-expert designers often fail to consider the sound details of their office plan, and this area can have a large impact on productivity. Noise distractions are one of the biggest inhibitors to productivity as they frequently interrupt concentration and momentum building.

solutions such as noise-canceling headphones, thicker carpeting, and quiet zones can make a big difference.

Increases in Productivity Equals Increased Innovation and Overall Bottom Line

By focusing on design techniques that boost efficiency and productivity, the effects trickle down (or up) to every other aspect of your company. Morale increases, less motivated employees get inspired, recruitment and talent acquisition improves, and the list goes on and on.

By following the suggestions offered here today, you can start the process of improving the productivity in your office, while also enjoying all of the other benefits that come as a result.
